Besides writing these sporadic posts about helping kids love to write, I’m busy, well, working to help actual kids actually love to write. You probably know this, but I run a writing program called Frog Hollow School, which offers writing classes for homeschoolers ages 8-12 in the greater Seattle area, as well as online creative writing workshops for ages 11 and up.
And it’s an exciting moment in the year: new student registration. One class filled from the waiting list, but fear not! There are still spaces in both Carnation and Seattle, as well as in the online class.
If you read this newsletter, you know we’re having a ridiculous amount of fun, and the kids are writing weird, great stuff, and I’m so excited and nerdy about it all. Not to mention we have all kinds of adventures and the kids have involved imaginative games together. We watched salamander eggs develop in the pond in Carnation, and a roosting owl ruffle its feathers in Seattle. It’s the kind of work that is a pleasure and an honor to do.
Also, you may know I LOVE working with reluctant writers of all stripes, including kids with the wild-bright minds that tend towards ADHD and dyslexia, as well as those sweet kids who would spend all day dreamily writing a story. And the kids who are all and none of that.
I could wax on. But the point is: now is your moment. Send me your children! Send me other people’s children! Register now!
This year, every child in the core classes is younger than Frog Hollow itself. Help me encourage the young writers coming up, and keep the magic going. Spread the word!
